I Would Like You To Dance....Take A Ch-ch-ch-chance!
Once upon a time, a party for me meant lots of drinks, hours of tunes, maybe a bar, staying up until 3 AM, and cleaning up the following morning...assuming people had left. Now, a party for me means a number of children running around after loading up on sugar with parents counting the 2 or so hours until they can drag the kids back out and try to get some relaxation.
Now, that's not to say it's a bad thing, especially when the party is for my daughter who is about to turn 1. But it's fair to say that there was more of a payoff when you threw a party together in 10 minutes and it lasted 5 hours, as opposed to setting up all week for a 2 hour block of time. Of course, when you don't really have a handle on what exactly needs to happen before the party, you tend to stand around bewildered for the week, then get chewed out for not pulling your weight when everyone is up at 1 AM trying to cram in all the last minute cleanup.
But this is what you do at age 1 because it's a huge milestone. And besides, it's super, super cute to see all the kids get together and interact. And as long as you're well prepared, (ie: umbrella, rainwear, mops) watching your baby demolish her first birthday cake is a blast.
So maybe we're not drinking until 3AM anymore, but this is just as fun...at least until the sugar high turns into sugar meltdown.
