Doggy Blow Out Part 2

Okay, maybe he didn't necessarily recover on his own. A few days after the injury, Herk started limping again. This time, the cause was very obvious: an infected paw that was apparently pretty darn ugly looking.

This of course has to come to a head on a day when everyone is pressed for time between getting home from work, the kids to dance class and trying to make it downtown in time for a concert. Heck, why not try to squeeze in a trip to the vet at rush hour?

Poor Herkie returned home with a big blue bandage covering his paw, along with an old IV bag that we had to put over the bandage so that it wouldn't get wet. It was pathetically cute. The bandage didn't seem to bother him, but that IV bag was the bane of his existence for those few days. Each time he had to go out, he would kick his leg in a vain attempt to get it off. When he couldn't, he would turn back and give us "evil doggy look." If you've never seen "evil doggy look," it can only be described as a steely stare that says "I'm going to rip out your throat while you're sleeping tonight. I have the teeth to do it, you know."

Being the smart dog that he is, the realization of not getting any more food pretty much ends that thought rather quickly.

This went on over the weekend. Mercifully short unless you have an IV bag tied to your leg. And the follow up visit to the vet showed that Herkie healed up very well. The only real side effect was that he needed to finish off the doggy antibiotics. Not that he minds that. He gets those with a nice portion of peanut butter to make it go down well. What dog doesn't like that?
