Fool Me Twice...

What the hell was I thinking?

I wanted to believe that the actions of a bunch of fools could be reversed. Even after the NHL season had been cancelled, I wanted to believe that it could be "uncancelled." That the presence of two men, Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux, who have done more for hockey than Bettman and Goodenow ever will, could unravel this tapestry of greed. That the two sides were really close to an agreement and ultimately would do what was best for the game of hockey.

I wanted to believe that after hearing the news all Saturday that an agreement was 80% certain, I would be watching the Red Wings starting on their way to recapture the Stanley Cup in a couple of weeks. That they couldn't possibly have gone back for another try only to announce that nothing has changed.

I was wrong. And I'm embarrassed to admit that I actually bought into all of it again!

Hard to believe it actually got worse. But I believe it now.
