Miracles As Viewed By Technology

We got to meet our new baby.

Well, not really, but we did get to look in on her/him through the scientific magic of ultrasound technology. And man is he/she beautiful!

The baby was fairly active during the ultrasound. We were able to see arms moving and things generally flailing around. And even though he/she's not really aware of much, it sure looked like he was waving to us!

Normally, ultrasound maps are very difficult for us non-medical types to see anything. But in this case, outlines of a head, spine, hands, arms, legs and a beating heart were all plainly visible. We even got to use the really high-tech ultrasound mapping where the images are made to look more three-dimensional and can give you a more real image of what is happening inside there, although it was actually a little early in baby 2's development process to have enough fat tissue for the ultrasound to lock in well on facial features.

It's just such a miracle, knowing there's a little person inside of Lisa right now. The moments when you hear the baby's heart beat for the first time and when you see the baby on the ultrasound monitor are just so special, so magical. It's difficult to truly put into words the emotions you feel at that point. You know that the baby's there, but to be able to have that tangible evidence of your newest son/daughter...it's just indescribable!

Very soon, we'll be able to actually meet you, little one. But for now, just relax, grow, and take it easy on Mom, OK?
