Dear Sparty,
Hope you had a good week off. We actually had to work this weekend. We were actually on TV (as we usually are because people around the country like to see us), so maybe you saw it? I suspect you were putting your time to good use by draining a few kegs, so you probably were passed out while it was on.
So just to get you up to speed as you wake from your drunken stupor, we had to play Purdue, a team with a high octane offense and first in the Big Ten in total and scoring defense. They were undefeated in Big Ten play and ranked in the Top Ten.
I say were because we smoked them. Oh, sorry...maybe not the best phrase to use. Hope Jeff's not offended.
Not only did we put up 31 points on the great Purdue defense (oh, OK, technically 24 since our defense scored a TD), but we never let their potent offense get into the end zone. Kyle Orton still has no clue what just happened to him. He's still wandering around, dazed, confused and muttering something like "blue jerseys everywhere...they won't go away...they won't stop..." Meanwhile, John Navarre threw pass after pass to Braylon Edwards, Jason Avant, Tim Massaquoi, Steve Breaston (oh yeah, Breaston. You may want to keep that name in the back of your head) and generally looked like he'd finally figured out the quarterbacking process. Oh, and when Navarre wasn't throwing, Chris Perry was busy racking up 110 yards on a defense that was supposed to give up only 66 rushing yards per game.
Anyway, I know there have been a couple of weeks when you might have chuckled at our misfortune. I understand that. We tend to do the same to you, especially when you give up winning touchdowns to unranked teams in the last 2 seconds of a game. But you might want to put your drink down and take a look at what's been happening. It was a lot of fun pummeling a team that has a spread offense run by a very talented QB.
Hey, wait a minute...that kind of sounds like you guys. Except your receivers aren't as good as Purdue's.
This should be fun...for us at least. See you on Saturday.
P.S. Don't bring that clock operator to the party, ok? I don't think you'll want him artificially prolonging the game this time around.
